We receive over a thousand emails per day. Though a lot of them are just spam, a large number are also legitimate emails. We use automatic filters to attempt to find the most important and urgent of them. Unfortunately it is not possible to answer all of the emails we receive. We hope the below links will help answer whatever reason brought you to this page, or will expedite your email to our attention if it is something that does need our personal attention:
Priority E-mail:
There are certain e-mail messages that take priority and will get a prompt response from us. E-mail messages from existing and potential advertisers will be read and answered promptly. Reports of technical problems such as the web site being down will be investigated and responded to in a timely manner. Click here to send a Priority E-mail to us.
Submitting a rail travelogue:
We very much appreciate the e-mail that we receive from the visitors to our web sites, especially the large number of messages of support for our efforts. Please keep those cards and letters coming! Many of you send us brief notes about your recent rail travels. We very much enjoy reading those, especially when we hear that you were inspired by writings and photos posted on our web sites. If you have posted a travelogue to a web site, please just e-mail us the specific URL (web address) of your travelogue and not the travelogue itself. We'll post a link to your travelogue fairly quickly! We do need the specific URL of the travelogue and not just the URL of the web site where it is posted. If you haven't posted it anywhere, We'd prefer that you send us your travelogue inside the body of an e-mail message rather than as a word document or an attachment. Due to the possibility of viruses attached to e-mail, your travelogue might never be posted if you send it to us as an attachment. Please be very very patient. Due to our lack of staffing, it can sometimes take months before travelogues sent to us get posted. That is why it is best to post your travelogue to a web site yourself and then just send us a URL to your travelogue. If you'd like to have your own web site hosted free at TrainWeb.org, please click here. You will need to learn about designing and maintaining a web site on your own in order to take advantage of this offer. Click here if you wish to submit a rail travelogue for us to read and post to our web site.
I would like to take a trip by rail. Can you help me with my plans?
This is probably the most common request that we get. We would love nothing more than to sit down with each of you and spend hours suggesting which route you should take and why, what you will see along the way, what to expect, what to watch out for, what we liked and didn't like about our rail journeys along this route, and much more. That isn't possible for us to do, but you will find thousands of rail travelogues and photos at TrainWeb.com/passengerrail that may help you decide which rail trip to take and what you will find during your journey. If you'd like to review a specifc Amtrak or other passenger train route, visit TrainWeb.com/routes where rail travelogues and photos are sorted by train route.
If you have a question that is not answered above or you would just like to share your rail travel comments with others, please visit RAILforum.com
I have a question or suggestion for Amtrak and I don't know how to contact them.
To contact Amtrak, click here. Other Amtrak information can be found at www.amtrak.com. If you wish to send a letter to Amtrak, sent it to: Amtrak Corporate Office / Headquarters, 50 Massachusetts Ave, Washington, DC 20002. You can reach Amtrak by telephone at 202-906-3000.
I have a question and you probably know where to find the answer for me.
We might know where to begin to look for the information to answer your request, but due to the volume of such requests that we receive each day, we can not answer any questions that requires us to search through the web or our files. If we can answer a question real quick off the top of our heads, we will usually do so. Otherwise, we suggest you use the search engine at: TrainWeb.com/search.html. Every word on every page of every rail related web site hosted on our servers (over 800 web sites!) is indexed!
I have rail hobby and other rail collectible items for sale.
TrainWeb no longer offers a free classified ads service as we once did at RailClassifieds.com
I have a news item that I think you should post.
We'd really appreciate if you could post such items yourself directly to the Rail Forums. That is the best and fastest way to let others know about the news item that you have found. Click here to go the Rail Forums now at RAILforum.com.
I found a mistake on one of the web pages.
Many of you have submitted corrections to errors on various pages on our web sites. Many of the web pages on our servers are composed using an old style text editor that does not have a built-in spell checker. Though we try to check for spelling errors, it is possible that some to sneak through here and there. Also, from time to time, the content of a web page might be erroneous or misleading. We have saved all of the corrections that we have been sent. Some web pages have been corrected, but most of the corrections still need to be applied. Except for errors in critically important pages and pages that get a lot of visitors, applying these corrections has a low priority. The corrections will be made eventually, however. If you find an error that you would like to bring to our attention, please click here to send e-mail to us about that item. Please include the exact URL of the page on which you found the error.
I know of another rail related web site that you should post a link to.
We no longer provide a list of links to railroad related websites outside of TrainWeb.com itself. We used to do that at RailLinks.com You can find links to ALL of the websites hosted at TrainWeb at TrainWeb.com/directory.
I would like to do a link-exchange between my web site and your web site.
TrainWeb no longer does link exchanges with other websites. We used to offer this service at RailLinks.com
I sent a request for a free web account at TrainWeb.org and have not yet received a reply.
We try to get new free web accounts set up within 48 hours of receiving your request. However, a backlog does develop at times and it can sometimes take more than 48 hours to get a free web account created. Please be sure to always include your desired suffix in your free web site request. More than 95% of requests for free rail related web accounts at TrainWeb.org for individuals and organizations are granted. Thus, if your web site will be railroad related, you are fairly safe to assume that your request will be granted. If you do not get a reply from us within 48 hours, please just submit your request again. Once in a great while an email will not reach us or it will fall through the cracks. We will not mind if you send us the same request again. To review our offer relating to free hosting, see: TrainWeb.org/signup.html.
I am having problems viewing the photographs or ipix images on your web site.
The ipix company went out of business and ipix images at TrainWeb can no longer be viewed. We have been trying to remove every link to ipix images from TrainWeb, but there may still be some we haven't found yet. Please click here to read the information at TrainWeb.com/photos/problems.html which might help you to be able to view the photographic images on our web sites.
I am having problems viewing the web pages on your web site.
If you are a visitor to our web site, we do not provide technical support. However, if you are reporting a problem with the operation of our web site, we will look into that immediately. If we believe that the problem you are experiencing is due to your web browser or your Internet Service Provider (ISP), then we will advise you to contact your ISP for technical help.
If you have your web site hosted free at TrainWeb.org, we also do not provide technical support except for instructions on how to log into your account and upload files. We also make sure that your web site is operational and accessible via the internet at all times. TrainWeb.org provides you with a "virtual server." That means that your web site will behave as though you are on your own web server all by yourself. For more information on technical services provided for webmasters at TrainWeb.org, click here.
I have railroad related photographs that I could send to you to post on your web site.
We've received a number of railroad photographs from visitors, including a number that have already been digitized and scanned. If you have a collection of railroad photographs that you would like to share with the world, we would really appreciate it if you would take advantage of our offer to provide you with a free web site at TrainWeb.org and then upload those photographs to your free web site yourself. We will be happy to announce and promote your free web site. To see a number of railfan related web sites at TrainWeb.org with posted photographs, click here.
For more information about having a rail related web site hosted free at TrainWeb.org, visit: TrainWeb.org/signup.html. Please do keep in mind that you should only post photographs to the web that you have taken yourself, that you have permission to post, or that you have confirmed are clearly in the public domain and not copyright by someone else. Photographs from most books and magazines are copyrighted and can not be posted to the web without permission. You also can not post photographs to your web site from other web sites without the permission of the Web Master of those other sites.
I would like to volunteer to help your web site.
We certainly could use help, but are not yet in a position to coordinate volunteers at remote locations. We hope to eventually be able to take advantage of the efforts of those of you that would like to volunteer. The best way that you could help at the moment would become a member of the American Passenger Rail Heritage Foundation. Membership levels start as low as $10 per year. For more information, please click here to go to APRHF.ORG.
I am working on a project for school. Can you send me the information that I am seeking or tell me where I can find it?
We frequently get e-mail from students in grade school through advanced degree programs asking us about one aspect or another about rail. Usually these questions are very general and would require a lengthy essay on our part for a proper answer. Unfortunately, the time just does not exist in our schedule to answer these questions one-on-one via e-mail. Instead, we suggest that students working on school projects should check the Rail Forums at RAILforum.com. Instead of getting just our perspective, students will probably get replies from many people involved and interested in various aspects of rail!
I am the Minister of Transportation for my country and am planning a new passenger rail system for our nation. Can you provide information to me that will help with this process?
We've received a number of permutations of messages like this, though not always in an easily understandable form of the English language. Since we have neither the resources to answer this request nor even the resources to check the authenticity of the sender, we can help in this area.
I have a suggestion of where to place a RailCam.
TrainWeb used to operate a number of live railroad webcams throughout the nation. We no longer provide this service. Instead, we recommend that you visit VirtualRailfan.com
How can I advertise on your web sites?
If you have asked about how you can become a paying commercial sponsor and benefit from the large number of visitors that we get every day that are interested in various aspects of rail, then you are probably going to get a very personal reply from us very quickly! But, if that isn't fast enough for you, the following web page will provide additional information about the cost and benefits of being a sponsor:
If the above suggestions did not answer your question or you still wish to send e-mail to us for any other reason, please click on one of the following links to send e-mail to us:
And last but not least, we want to address the issue of junk mail sent to us. As we mentioned at the top of this page, we receive over a thousand items of junk mail each day. Most of those are deleted by automatic filters. If you click on one of the above links to send e-mail to us, a "Subject" line will automatically be added to your message that will help us to sort and prioritize your message. If you send e-mail to us without using one of the above links, then it will probably be diverted to the trash bin by our automatic filters. Please do use one of the above links to send email to us to improve the chances that it will get to us. Thanks in advance!
